Proof of Concept (PoC) of Mems-ID™ RFID Chip

4 September 2006

Mems-ID is pleased to announce the achievement of a working PoC MEMS RFID chip. Following refinement of the manufacturing processes and trials of various materials, one of the first completed wafers has been diced and a number of chips mounted and wire bonded for testing. After insertion into a magnetic field in a custom-designed test jig, the chip was excited and resonance observed. This successful test establishes four key metrics:

  • the basic design of the structure is validated
  • all individual fabrication steps have been demonstrated, along with their integration
  • the device can be excited as expected
  • the resonance of the structures can be detected

Mems-ID is now focused on the next phase of development, leading to a beta version of the Mems-ID™ chip and interrogator system within the next six months. These will be used for extensive testing and field trials.
